American Serena Williams won her fourth Wimbledon singles title on Saturday when she crushed Russian 21st seed Vera Zvonareva 6-3 6-2 in the final at the All England Club.

The defending champion broke Zvonareva in game eight of the opening set before holding serve to take the lead on a bright, warm day on Centre Court.

Williams broke the Russian's serve in the first game of the second set and never released control of the match, clinching the victory when she put away an easy overhead.

The triumph was Williams's 13th grand slam singles title, overtaking fellow American Billie Jean King to go sixth in the all-time list.
