Gerrard says okay for fans to boo England Lions if they fail

London, Aug.11 (ANI): Skipper Steven Gerrard has given England fans permission to boo the team at Wembley tonight if they fail to deliver against Hungary.

"I probably would boo. We deserve it. We have to take it on the chin because we let the supporters down in the summer," The Sun quoted Gerrard, as saying.

"Hopefully, in time, we can show we are a good team. We are desperate to make the supporters happy in the future," he added.

Manager Fabio Capello has also admitted he and his team of under-performing stars including Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Frank Lampard deserve to be jeered in tonight's friendly with Hungary.

Gerrard, however, believes the criticism of Capello has been unfair.

The Liverpool midfielder said: "We can't just shift all the blame on the manager. The players go on to the pitch. We have to take it on our chins together. Fabio is the manager, all the players listen carefully to what he has to say. I've got big faith in him. It would be stupid and naive not to... he is a fantastic manager."

A well-below capacity crowd of about 60,000 is expected tonight, with some supporters said to be planning to walk out after 40 minutes in disgust at England's World Cup shocker.

Ace Gerrard believes the only way to win back fans' trust is to start winning again - and qualify for Euro 2012. (ANI)
