Woods, a 'national joke' in US over poor performance at Bridgestone

Washington, Aug 11 (ANI): Struggling golfer Tiger Woods has become a 'national joke' in the US after his pathetic performance at the World Golf Championship (WGC)-Bridgestone Invitational.

American stand-up comedian and television host Jay Leno taunted at Woods' current status as he finished next to last on Sunday.

"The last time Tiger hit that many trees was when he was trying to get his car out of the driveway," Leno quipped.

That was a reference to an incident back in November when Woods crashed his car into a tree as he was chased out of his Florida home by wife Elin after she found out about his string of extra-marital affairs.

Leno also claimed that Woods had consulted his old pal, basketball legend Charles Barkley, who is the subject of a Golf Channel show aiming to transform him from a hopeless hacker into a decent golfer, The Sun reports.

"It's got so bad, Tiger is phoning Charles for tips now. And his sponsors, Nike, are changing their motto from 'Just do it' to 'Just get it over with'," he added.

When Woods was questioned how he had gone from world No 1 to "one of the worst players on the planet", he replied: "The good thing is, even as one of the worst golfers on the planet, I could still beat you!"

On Sunday he admitted he would be a liability at Celtic Manor in October. However, on the show, he said he would definitely accept a wild card from USA captain Corey Pavin.

"Yes, I would take being a captain's pick. I haven't seen him or spoken to Corey, and hopefully I won't be a pick. I would like to be able to play myself onto that team," he added. (ANI)
