Ashwin wins on day 5 of World chess championship for blind

Belgrade (Serbia), Sep 1 (PTI) Ashwin continued his attacking play and registered his second consecutive win over M Jumabekov from Kazakistan on the fifth day of World chess championship for the blind at here today. With this win, Ashwin has taken her aggregate to 3.5 points to lead the Indian tally at the end of fifth round. Among others, Shrikrishna Udupa and Rajesh Oza drew their games with T Lapadatu From Rumania and M Ivanovic from Montenegro respectively. However, Darpan lost his second game in a row with M Caponov of Macedonia. Playing with black in queen''s gambit variation, Ashwin played attacking game and sacrifice his knight on 21st move to expose the white king and crushed his opponent in 30 moves. Udupa playing with black could not convert the advantage into win and inspite of exchange up drew his game with T lapadatu in 48 moves. He is on 2.5 points. Rajesh playing with white started his game with king pawn, his opponent M Ivanovic responded with Sicilian defense, both agreed draw in 39 moves. Darpan playing with white opted to play with Roy-Lopez and win a pawn very early in the game. He played this game with control aggression and sound defense. But in time control he made blunders and lost the winning game.
