Defending champions record huge 162-run win over GNPS-36 to win 7th Molly Carver tourney

On Saturday, Karan Aggarwal made his grandfather Dronacharya Desh Prem Azad proud by giving sterling all-round performance (53 runs and 4 for 24), to enable St Stephen's School, Sector 45, beat Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, by a huge margin of 162 runs in the final to clinch 7th Molly Carver Invitational Cup that was organised by Desh Prem Azad Cricket Academy and St Stephen's School, Sector 45.

Defending champions, St Stephen's School won the toss and decided to set target for the opposition. Carrying forward his fine form in the tournament opener Udit Hari Mehta scored 79 runs in 71 balls. He was ably supported by Karan who made 53 runs in 74 balls. Both added 127 runs for the opening wicket, thus giving a launching pad to the following batsmen. After Udit's fall, Gurraunak joined Karan in the middle. Both played all over the park and were involved in 91-run partnership for the second wicket. Gurraunak played knock of 65 runs to propel his team's total. Gurpinder Singh contributed with important 30 runs in the slog overs and also remained unbeaten. St Stephen's scored total of 275 runs for the loss of six wickets in 40 overs. From GNPS-36, leg-spinner Sachin Madra (3 for 58) and right arm off-break bowler Charanjit Singh (3 for 48) were the main wicket takers.

In reply, GNPS-36 were skittled out for 113 in 27.2 overs. Right hand medium-pacer Gaurav Singh bowled accurately and grabbed GNPS's four top-order wickets, leaving them in tatters. Maintaining the pressure, Karan got into the act and bowled his effective leg-breaks to put the opposition batsmen on the backfoot. In the process, he was able to send four batsmen back to the pavilion. It was just Sanjog Singh (40) who showed some resistence in the GNPS batting line-up. Later, Karan was declared man of the match, while Udit Hari Mehta (656 runs and 7 wickets) was announced as man of the tournament for his superlative performances. Prizes were given by Harold Carver and Diana Carver.
