Vadodara, Nov 27 (PTI) After playing 84 Ranji Trophy matches, opening batsman Satyajit Parab today announced his retirement from the first class cricket here. Parab had been one of the mainstays of Baroda''s batting line-up ever since he made his debut in late 1990s. In his 14 years of cricketing career, Parab has scored more than 4700 runs which included 16 centuries and 16 fifties. He started off in the middle order, but the runs began to flow when he moved up to open the innings. Talking to reporters here, he recalled how he had scored centuries in each innings. He said playing with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Irfan Pathan was memorable. "Like any other cricketer, I had hoped to get into the national team but failed to find a place in it," he said. When Baroda won the Ranji Trophy, Parab scored 809 runs at average of 58 and followed that up with 895 runs at an average of 56 in 2002-03. His consistency in the domestic circuit -- and a knee injury to Aakash Chopra -- won him a place in the India A squad for the tour to England. When he announced his retirement from the first class cricket, no office bearer of Baroda Cricket Association was present. Irfan Pathan, who was present, said, "It was bad luck that Parab could not break into the national team despite reaching near to it." PTI SP PDS
