Hooda congratulates Haryana''s Asian Games medal winners

Chandigarh, Nov 26 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has congratulated athletes of the state for their sterling performance in the 16th Asian Games which concluded in Guangzhou, China today. Haryana athletes have won three gold, six silver and six bronze medals in the quadrennial event. Apart from this feat, Haryana players formed the core of India''s men and women kabaddi teams, which won gold medal in both the categories. As many as seven kabaddi players are from Haryana in the kabaddi team, two athletes in the women gold medal winning kabaddi side and three the national hockey team which bagged the bronze. While lauding the players for their continued excellent performance, Hooda said the athletes of the state have won more than 25 per cent of the total medals won by the country and out of total 61 players participating in the Games, more than 26 players have already got a medal or two on their chest. Thus 43 per cent of Haryana players have contributed in national quest for medals in Asiad, which might be highest percentage of success rate for any state or country, he added. Hooda said that Haryana players like Vijender Singh, Vikas Krishan, Sanam Singh, Kaptan Singh, Manisha, Dinesh, Abhinav Lohan, Gagan Narang, Annu Raj Singh, Sanjeev Rajput, Ravinder, Kavita Goyat, Paramjeet Samota, Mausam Khatri and Krishna Poonia have made the state and the country proud by winning medals in the mega-event. .
