Cook hits double century as England reaches 439-1

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) Alastair Cook hit an unbeaten double century and Jonathan Trott brought up his hundred as England's took its second innings to 439-1 at lunch Monday on the final day to continue its dominance of the first Ashes test against Australia. Cook was 201 not out with Trott on 100 at the break as England took a 218-runs lead over Australia. Cook became just the fourth Englishman to score a double century in Australia, following R.E. Foster, Wally Hammond and Paul Collingwood. Cook and Trott's second-wicket partnership of 251 is also a record for England at the Gabba, breaking Cook and Andrew Strauss' 188-run first-wicket stand Sunday. Australia's misery was compounded when Michael Clarke dropped Trott while on 75 at slip off the bowling of Shane Watson.
