Himachal govt. to give cash prize to CWG and Asiad medallists

Dharamsala, Nov 29 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh will award cash prizes to the medal winners of Commonwealth Games and Asian Games at the statehood day function on January 25, next year, Chief Minister PK Dhumal said today. Dhumal said cash prize of Rs 10 lakh will be given to the gold medal winners while the silver and bronze medallists will be handed Rs 5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively. Subedar Vijay Kumar, hailing from Hamirpur district, won three gold and one silver in different shooting events in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Samresh Jung, hailing from Sirmour district won one silver and one bronze in shooting. Meena Kumari of Bilaspur won one bronze in rifle shooting in the Commonwealth Games. Vijay Kumar had also won two bronze in the Asian Games in Guangzhou while Sonia Rai, hailing from Baijnath of Kangra district, won one silver in pistol shooting competition. Dhumal said that Subedar Vijay Kumar would get a cash prize of Rs 41 lakh (Rs 35 lakh for Commonwealth Games medals and Rs 6 lakh for two bronze in the Asiad).
