New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) The Lok Sabha today congratulated the Indian contingent for its brilliant performance at the 16th Asian Games held in Guangzhou, China. "India, in its best ever performance at the Asian Games, won 14 gold, 17 silver and 33 bronze medals and stood sixth in the overall medals tally," Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said. The members conveyed their best wishes for all the athletes in their future endeavours. "The House applauds all the sportsmen and women who, while displaying the highest standards of sportsmanship, brought laurels and glory to the nation in these Games," Kumar said. Members responded to the Speaker''s reference by thumping their desks enthusiastically. Union Minister Harish Rawat was seen congratulating Suresh Kalmadi, President of the Indian Olympic Association and member from Pune.
