Maghami clinches title in a tie-break

New Delhi, Jan 22 (PTI) Third seed Iranian Grandmaster Maghami Ehsan Ghaem emerged winner at the 8th Parsvnath International Chess Tournament on the basis of better tie- break score here today. Maghami drew the 11th and final round with Bangladeshi Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman which resulted in a three-way tie at the top. Maghami, Russian Grandmaster Dmitry Kryakvin and Grandmaster Pavel Kostur of Kazakhstan all had nine points each but better tie break score helped Maghami to take the winners trophy and cash prize of Rs two lakh rupees. Kryakvin finished second and Kostur had to be content with the third spot finish. Young Indian International Master Deep Sengupta finished a creditable sixth position in the field of 22 Grandmasters. Rahul Sangma and Tania Sachdev won the Best Delhi Player and Best Women Players prizes. In the final round encounters Kryakvin overcame second seed Slovenian Grandmaster Lenic Luka while Kostur defeated Uzbek Grandmaster Marat Dzhumaev to catch up with Maghami for the pole position. Women International Master Muminova Nafisa and International Master P Karthikeyan bagged Best Women and Best Junior player prizes respectively. Grandmaster Vul Arkadi Eremmeevich of Russia adjudged as Best Veteran player and Maharjan Herkaji of Nepal secured Best Unrated player prize.
