London, Feb.12 (ANI): Champions League Chairman Lalit Modi has said that if the England and Wales Cricket Board moves the English cricket county season forward by a week, it can resolve an existing scheduling clash.
The problems have been caused by the scheduling of a one-day series between India and Australia in early October forcing the Champions League organisers to move forward their tournament.
Other problems began to emerge on Thursday, with counties set to lose expensive overseas signings who have qualified for the Champions League with their home teams. Leicestershire will lose Australian Andrew McDonald to the competition.
The final two rounds of the championship and the latter stages of the 40-over Cup fall during the Champions League, which is scheduled for September 10-26.
"We need to know in the next week or so," Modi told Telegraph Sport.
"If they (English counties) don't come we will invite somebody else. The idea is they come and I hope it doesn't get to that eventuality. I understand counties can't go around the ECB's back and we will not invite anybody without their board's permission," Modi said.
"We have given them the opportunity to change it [the county season] and there is nothing more we can do. We hope the counties change their minds and advance it by a week but the international calendar is very hard to alter," he added.
At present both sides are refusing to budge, the English cricket counties could miss this year's tournament, reports The Telegraph. We have an English season to play. The economics of that are very substantial and very attractive for counties," Clarke said. (ANI)
