Amat happy to seal Champions Trophy berth for Spain

New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) They could not realise the aim of the making the World Cup semifinals but Spain skipper Pol Amat is happy that they have qualified for this year''s Champions Trophy by finishing fifth in the tournament. The European team blanked South Korea 2-0 in the play-off match today to secure a berth in the Champions Trophy. It was none other than Amat, who scored both the goals today for his team. "We had come here with the aim to at least reach the semifinals. In that way we missed our target. But we are happy that we will play in the six-team Champions Trophy (in August in Germany). "That (qualification) is very important as it would keep us playing against the best in the world. Playing against the best teams in the world is important as our target is 2012 Olympics in London," said Amat, who led the side in 2008 Beijing Olympics, where Spain ended as runners-ups. Talking about the match against South Korea, he said his side controlled the game throughout. "We are very happy. South Korea are a very good side having beaten the Netherlands. But we did not allow them to play their game. We were very fast and attacking. We controlled the match for most part," he said. Asked why Spain had won very few major international tournament, Amat said, "We have won too many silver medals but I don''t know why. But we are happy that we have been among the top teams. We have been in the semifinals of most of major tournaments," he said.
