New Delhi, March 17 (IANS) Indian boxers swept six of the 10 gold medals on offer in the Commonwealth Boxing Championships here Wednesday.
The Indian gold rush began with Parmjeet Samota winning the title clash in super heavyweight category (+91kg).
Amandeep (49kg), Dinesh Kumar (81kg), Bejing Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh (75kg), Asian champion Suranjoy Singh (52kg) and Jai Bhagwan (62kg) were the other five to clinch the yellow metal at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium on the final day of the championship.
Parmjeet defeated New Zealand's Joseph Parker 7:3 in what was an evenly contested fight till the second round with the Indian leading 4-3. But in the third and the final round, Parmjeet showed great technique to pin down Parker.
The second gold came from Amandeep, who defeated Kenya's Peter Mungai 3:0 in the final of the light fly weight catrgory.
Dinesh was lucky to win the third gold for India without dropping a sweat. His opponent Callium Johnson of Scotland withdrew from the title-clash with an elbow injury.
Vijender outpunched England's Frank Buglioni 13-3 to bag the gold in the middle-weight category. Vijender lead 7-2 in the second round and by the third opened up a 10 point lead to win the bout.
Asian champion Suranjoy beat Mauritius' Oliver Lavigi 1-0 after the referee stopped contest.
Jai Bhagwan beat Bahamas Valention Knowles 6-2. Both boxers were tied 2-2 after the second round but in the third, Jai Bhagwan dominated and won four points.
