J&K Govt to modernise stadia in Srinagar, Jammu

Jammu, Mar 7 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to modernise the indoor as well as outdoor stadia here and Srinagar in a phased manner in order to renovating the sports infrastructure in the state. Sports Minister R S Chib today said this after watching a power-point presentation on the matter prepared by Department of Youth Services and Sports here. Chib said that in the first phase, indoor stadia shall be modernised with sophisticated and latest facilities like swimming pools, gymnasium, skating rings, kabadi courts and so on. He also hoped that these stadia would prove to be a role model for other states of the country. The minister, while interacting with media, said that the construction work on ice-hockey rink in Leh is in full swing and construction of stadium in each district and playing fields in all the blocks of the state will be taken up shortly to provide latest and modern facilities to sports enthusiasts. Referring to a mega-plan of providing similar facilities in Kashmir valley, Chib said that government has decided to construct "Gindun" sports field in Srinagar to attract youth towards sports activities to ensure sound health of the youngsters.
