Hyderabad, April 16 (IANS) The Andhra Pradesh High Court Friday reserved its orders on a petition by Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, seeking direction to police to close the case against him and return his passport.
The Pakistani player, who married Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza Monday, moved the court to get back his passport, seized by police April 5 after he was questioned in connection with a cheating case filed by his first wife Ayesha Siddiqui.
Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy heard the arguments of the counsel for Malik and posted the case for Monday.
In his petition, the former Pakistani skipper sought direction to the Central Crime Station of Hyderabad police to close the case against him and release his passport.
Shoaib's counsel told the court that the issue between him and Ayesha was resolved amicably and she withdrew her complaint and hence there was no reason to hold on to his passport.
Malik moved the high court after police said it might take a week for him to get back his passport as he would have to complete some legal formalities.
A police official had said that Shoaib and Ayesha may have to appear before a lower court. The cricketer approached the high court through his counsel to avoid appearing before a lower court.
Shoaib divorced Ayesha April 7, three days after she lodged a complaint with police after he denied marrying her in 2002.
