New Delhi, May 13 (PTI) The newly-upgraded Talkatora Indoor Stadium, selected as the competition venue for boxing in the Commonwealth Games to be held here later this year, now has energy-efficient solar lights. Sixty solar energy lights have been installed in the compound of the stadium as part of the initiative of ''Green and Clean'' Delhi for the mega event. "An ISO-certified company Linkage Technologies Inc has installed the lights in the compound of Talkatora stadium. These lights are made of LED chips, which consume minimum energy. The 60 watt LED lights provide more illumination than 400 watt sodium vapour lamps," officials of New Delhi Municipal Council, which renovated the stadium, said. The average life time of each LED light is 50,000 hours. Because of the advanced technology, these lights require very little maintenance, they said adding, these will get switched on after sunset and switched off after sunrise automatically. This effort of NDMC is a step for environment protection and energy conservation, they said. The Talkatora Stadium, upgraded at a cost of Rs 150 crore, was inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) Chairman Suresh Kalmadi on February 24. The stadium has been provided acoustic ceiling, new score board, video screens and sports lighting. There are warm-up cubicles space and lobbies, CCTVs for security and addressable fire fighting alarm system. During the Games, the ground floor of the block will be provided with the facility of athlete cubicles, medical office and physiotherapy unit, warm up area, athlete lounge and first floor will have a doping control office, federation office, technical official and meeting room.
