Gill promises impartial justice to women hockey players

New Delhi, July 26 (ANI): Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports M S Gill on Monday said the cases of sexual harassment that have rocked the women's hockey team would be dealt with in a professional and impartial way.

"The Ministry is focused on any one of these, every one of these maliciously (made) statements, the hockey business, and the Ministry will do what it has to in a professional, impartial way because there are lots of other things involved," said Gill.

He said the sports ministry is keeping tabs on developments related to the scandals.anjitha Devi, a woman hockey player, had lodged a complaint against coach MK Kaushik.

Ranjitha alleged that Kaushik sought sexual favours from her in exchange for further selection. Kaushik denied the allegations and stepped down pending inquiry.

On his part, Kaushik dismissed the allegations as a frame up.

Hockey India had also sacked videographer Basavraj, whose photographs with prostitutes during the recent Canada and China tour were sent to Hockey India by an anonymous person. The photographs were received on July 16.

Hockey India has set up a high-level committee comprising experts and former players to probe into the matter.

The committee comprises of former hockey captains Zafar Iqbal and Ajit Pal Singh along with Sudarshan Pathak and Rajiv Mehta. (ANI)
