Swann eyes rerun of England's 1986-87 Ashes victory in Australia

London, July 16(ANI): England off-spinner Graeme Swann hopes to emulate the Three Lions' Ashes victory of 1986-87 in Australia, and be part of a team that wins Down Under.

Swann said that he had been to the series as an eight-year-old, and has a recording titled 'On Top Down Under' which convinced him that he wanted to be a cricketer.

"That last series victory was the first time I fell in love with cricket," The Daily Express quoted Swann, as saying.

"Me and my brother [Alec, who was also a professional cricketer] watched On Top Down Under religiously, but we have not even come close to winning there again since," he added.

Swann, one of the stars of last summer's Ashes victory, also senses that the power is shifting, and for the first time in many a year, believes that a combined best XI from the two teams would contain more Englishmen than Australians.

"They still have some world-class players, but what they lacked last year was that Warne-McGrath figure. They don't have someone who has destroyed England for a decade," Swann said.

"I don't think anyone would turn down Ricky Ponting or Michael Clarke if they were offered to your team, or Michael Hussey maybe but, if you look at us player for player, we would be more than happy with our lot and, if we picked a team like that, we would have more players than them," he added.
