New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) The government today admitted that over Rs 670 crores meant for Scheduled Caste welfare projects were diverted by the Delhi government for Commonwealth Games, triggering protests in the Rajya Sabha from BJP, BSP and the Left. Since 2006-07 to the current fiscal, out of Rs 7,062.76 crores (under indivisible funds), Rs 678.91 crores were given for the Commonwealth games projects, Home Minister P Chidamabaram said. He was making a statement after persistent demands in the last three weeks by the opposition parties in the wake of an RTI report that funds were diverted by the National Capital Territory government to the CWG projects. Chidamabaram''s statement came after Deputy Chairman K Rehman Khan directed the government earlier in the day that it should come out with a reply in response to the persistent demands of the members. However, when further clarifications were not allowed immediately, BSP members trooped into the well led by Naresh Agarwal. Shouting slogans against the central government, they forced the Chair to adjourn the House for the day towards the fag end of the sitting. Chidamabaram said the Delhi government had two types of funds for Schedule Castes -- divisible and indivisible. While the divisible funds have to be necessarily used exclusively for SCs, money from the indivisible pool can be used for projects such as building stadiums, bridges and flyovers.
