London, Aug 14(ANI): Pakistan middle-order batsman Mohammad Yousuf boosted his chances of a Test comeback with an impressive unbeaten 40 on the rain-hit opening day of the two-day tour match against Worcestershire.
Only 28.1 overs of play was possible in the day, during which Pakistan scored 112 for two.
The 35-year-old made the most of his chance, playing several typically aggressive strokes, including eight fours in his innings of 54 deliveries.
"Yousuf has been working hard for the last week or so. He is stronger and his reputation is at stake now. He is a world-class cricketer and we want him to bat for a long time," The Daily Times quoted Shafqat Rana, Pakistan associate manager, as saying.
Pakistan opening batsman Yasir Hameed, who is also attempting to secure a place in the Test squad, failed to impress after being dismissed for 27.
Yousuf was recalled for the second Test at Edgbaston to bolster the batting line-up following Pakistan's first-Test defeat at Trent Bridge.
However, he opted to sit out of the Test, as he had landed in England on the eve of the match.
The veteran has not played for his country since January after being banned indefinitely following the winter tour to Australia.
The tour of England still has two Tests, two Twenty20s and three ODI. (ANI)
