Somdev inches closer to first ever Masters Series main draw

Toronto, Aug 8 (PTI) Somdev Devvarman is one step away from making his first ever ATP Masters series tournament after demolishing local wild card Pavel Krainik in the qualifiers of the Rogers Cup here. The 14th seed Indian crushed his opponent 6-0 6-1 in the first round of the qualifying event of the USD 2,430,000 hard court tournament. But Somdev has a tough task at hand as he will playing his second and final round match against Uzbekistan''s world number 54 and third seed Denis Istomin. Seasoned Mahesh Bhupathi, Laender Paes and Rohan Bopanna are playing in the doubles event of the ATP 1000 event. Third seeds Paes and Czech Lukas Dlouhy have got a bye in the first round. Bhupathi and his Belarusian partner Max Mirnyi, seeded fourth, have also got a bye in the first round. Bopanna has paired with American Eric Butorac. They will open their campaign against Frantisek Cermak of Czech republic and Michal Mertinak of Slovakia.
