New Delhi, Aug 9 (ANI): Ace rifle shooter Tejaswini Sawant returned here on Monday after winning gold medal at the World Shooting Championship in Munich city of Germany.
By winning the championship on Sunday, Sawant became the first ever Indian woman shooter to have achieved this feat.
She scored 597 out of 600 points in the 50m-rifle event equalling the record set by Marina Bobkova of Russia in 1998.
Union Sports Minister M S Gill congratulated Sawant for the rare and maiden achievement in Munich.
Speaking to the media persons, Sawant said that Indian shooters have been performing well of late and etched a name for them in the global arena of marksmanship.
"I feel that India's status has increased a lot. If you talk about Indian shooters then we are being appreciated at the world level that Indian shooters are coming up and giving good scores. We have given a good performance at the very first level. So I do feel that the level of Indian shooters has improved and all of them are known by their names," said Sawant.
Sawant attributed these achievements to her family members especially her father, who unfortunately expired earlier this year, and her coach and fitness trainers. (ANI)
