Pune, Oct 6 (PTI) Haryana girls scored an authoritative 5-0 win over Chandigarh to emerge champions of the 35th Junior (under-20) National Hockey Championship for the third consecutive time at the Major Dhyanchand ground here this evening. Haryana had earlier won the national title in 2006 at Jabalpur and 2007 in Gwalior. The tournament was not held in the following two years. Haryana girls dictated terms from the start and after a couple of misses they finally found success in the 19th minute through a field goal scored by Navjot Kaur. Six minutes later, Raman Kaur doubled the lead for them with another field effort. She was again on target in the 47th minute before her captain Meenakshi Saini converted a penalty corner two minutes later to put the issue beyond their opponents. Navjot rounded off the tally in the 68th minute. The Haryana girl''s went home richer by Rs 51,100, while Chandigarh had to be content with the runners-up cash prize of Rs 25,000. Punjab who finished third picked a purse of Rs 10,000. Raman Kaur of Haryana, who was adjudged the player of the tournament in the girl''s event, received a gift voucher package worth Rs 10,000 sponsored by Canbay Family Holidays. Earlier in the third place matches, Punjab after trailing 2-0 at the end of the first half staged a great fight back in the second to overcame Uttar Pradesh 3-2. (More) PTI VKV SHN
