India face Kuwait in Asian Games opener

New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) Two-time gold medallist India will start their campaign against Kuwait in the under-23 football competition of the Asian Games at Guangzhou in China.

India have been drawn in Group D alongside reigning champions, Qatar, Kuwait and Singapore.

India, ranked 144th, will face 103rd ranked Kuwait Nov 7 at the Huadu Stadium. It will then face defending champions Qatar, ranked 109, Nov 9, and 127th ranked Singapore in their last group match Nov 11.

The Squad:

Goalkeepers: Karanjit Singh, Laxmikant Kattimani, Gurpreet Singh Sadhu

Defenders: Denzil Franco, Abhishek Das, Robert Lalthalma, Rowilson Rodrigues, Raju Gaikwad, Inderpreet Singh, Dharmaraj Ravanan, Lalrozama Fanai.

Midfielders: Lalrindika Ralte, Joaquim Abranches, Jewel Raja Shaikh, Jibon Singh, Manish Mathani, Shilton D'Silva, Tirthankar Sarkar, Subodh Kumar

Strikers: Jeje Lalpekhlua, Balwant Singh, Jagtar Singh, Malsawmfela
