Spinners call the shot in under 19 tourney

Mumbai, Oct 27 (PTI) Spinners dominated the first day of the four-team Sportstar Trophy, MCA Selection Trial U-19 tournament, in first round matches. Left-arm spinner Aditya Dhumal excelled for Vijay Manjrekar XI at Fort Vijay ground, Azad Maidan, grabbing five wickets for 51 runs. He teased batsmen with disciplined bowling in three spells and, with support from medium pacer Saurabh Netravalkar (2-42) and Pratik Gawli (2-16), restricted Vijay Merchant XI to 191. Neelkanth Parab top-scored with 59 for Merchant XI. In the other match, Dattu Phadkar XI off-spinner Mairaj Khan kept Khandu Rangnekar XI in check at Total Vengsarkar Academy, with a four-wicket haul, giving away 30 runs in 17 overs. Phadkar XI were 79-2 at close. The tournament is in its silver jubilee year. Scores: Vijay Merchant XI 191 in 68 overs (Rohit Pawar 41, Neelkanth Parab 59; Aditya Dhumal 5-51, Saurabh Netravalkar 2-42, Pratik Gawli 2-16) vs Vijay Manjrekar XI 37-2 in 11 overs. Khandu Rangnekar XI 121 (Ravi Shinde 32, Harmeet Singh 27, Mairaj Khan 4-30) vs Dattu Phadkar XI 79-2 in 31 overs (Sanket Yadav 27, Sumit Ghadigaonkar 27 not out).
