United lose rebel Rooney as Eto'o eyes more goals

Wed, Oct 20 10 08:37 AM

Manchester United will be getting used to life without Wayne Rooney at home to Bursaspor in the Champions League on Wednesday when holders Inter Milan unleash red-hot Samuel Eto'o on Tottenham Hotspur.

Rooney has shocked United by saying he wants to leave but manager Alex Ferguson will not have to make an awkward decision about playing him against the Turkish side after the club said the England striker had gone down with an ankle injury.

Rangers also host Valencia in Group C.

Eto'o scored a hat-trick in his last Group A game against Werder Bremen and will be licking his lips as he comes up against an injury-hit Spurs defence at the San Siro.

Dutch champions Twente Enschede and Werder have some catching up to do in the other group clash.

Barcelona have doubts over Xavi's fitness for the home game with Group D leaders FC Copenhagen while pointless Panathinaikos take on Rubin Kazan.

Group B pacesetters Olympique Lyon, with Brazil full back Michel Bastos in surprise goalscoring form, entertain Benfica's South American legion with Schalke 04 and the in-from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar welcoming Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
