Karachi, Oct 12 (PTI) Differences between the national cricket coach Waqar Younis and chief selector Mohsin Khan came out in the open today during the hearing of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports in Islamabad. The two former stars reportedly exchanged words when the committee members asked them about the selection of the squads for the series against South Africa. "Yes, Waqar Younis did say at the hearing that he was not consulted by the selectors or Board when the squad for the coming series was announced," the Chairman of the committee, Iqbal Mohammad Ali said. "Waqar said that he was not consulted or informed on the decision to recall Misbah-ul-Haq to the one-day and T20 squad and to make him captain of the Test squad," Iqbal said. "Basically Waqar complained that the squad announced for the South Africa series was not to his liking and in the past also the views of the captain and coach were ignored to which Mohsin Khan said that the selectors announced the squads on the instructions of the Board Chairman," Iqbal said. Sources, who witnessed the hearing, said that Mohsin reacted to Waqar''s comments by saying that he has always consulted the captain and coach in selection of teams. "Mohsin said that appointment of Misbah as captain was the Board''s decision not his," the source said. Selection has become a burning issue in Pakistan cricket in recent months with the chief selector gaining a reputation that he just folows instructions of PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt. The recall of Misbah, 36, and his elevation as test captain is seen by many as dictatorship by Butt and weak management from the paid chief selector.
