Airtel trophy unveiled

Fri, Nov 26 10 08:52 PM

Guwahati, Nov 26 (PTI) The Airtel trophy for the ODI series between India and New Zealand was today unveiled by the rival captains at a function ahead of the first match on Sunday. The glittering trophy was unveiled by Indian captain Gautam Gambhir and his New Zealand counterpart Daniel Vettori in presence of senior Airtel officials and Assam Cricket Association (ACA) secretary Bikash Baruah at the Landmark hotel where the host team are staying. The organisers wished the two teams goodluck and hoped that Sunday''s opening ODI to be played at the Jawarharlal Nehru stadium would be an exciting match. With the entire city put under a strict security blanket, the New Zealand team members who are staying at the Nakshatra hotel far away from the venue of the unveiling function, arrived late for the event. Even journalists and lensmen covering the ceremony had to face a tough time to convince the securitymen at the hotel that they were genuine invitees for the function.
