Silver medal-winning Indian sailing team feted

New Delhi, Nov 23 (PTI) The Indian sailing team that won the silver in the Asian Games 2010 at Guangzhou, China, was felicitated on their arrival here today. The team comprising Navy officers Lt Cdr (retired) F Tarapore, Cdr Atool Sinha, Balraj, Shekhar Singh Yadav and Trunal were feted by the Navy and the Yachting Association of India (YAI), a Navy press release said here. The team had won Silver Medal in the Match Racing event at the ongoing Asian Games 2010. Lt Cdr (Retd) F Tarapore had won the Fireball class gold medal as crew of Zarir Karanjia in the 1982 Asian Games sailing regatta held off the Mumbai harbour and also picked up a hat-trick of bronze medals in the Asian Games held between 1986 and 1994 in different classes of boats. The team had trained at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre in Mumbai, which had produced champion sailors including 13 Arjuna awardees, two Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardees and a Dronacharya awardee for the sport in the past 40 years.
