Vadodara Marathon receives accreditation from world body

Vadodara, Nov 23 (PTI) Vadodara Marathon, to be held here on January 23 next, has received accreditation from the Association of International Marathons Distances races (AIMS), the organisers said today. Amit Bhatnagar, the director of the company which is organising Vadodara Marathon, told PTI here that the event has got accreditation from AIMS. "The company will organise the first International Half Marathon in Gujarat in which 50 international athletes recognized by AIMS will take part in it. It will be conducted on AIMS Standard, along an AIMS measured course, with support from Baroda District Amateur Athletic Association," he said. About 32,000 participants are expected to take part in 18 categories of this marathon and total prizes run to Rs 25 lakhs, said Tejal Amin, another director of the company. "Last year, 30,000 participants had taken part in the marathon. It is organised for taking up social causes including clean up project for the city or for Vadodara Police traffic education for addressing thee problem of congested traffic in the city," Amin said. The company had approached 124 national sports associations in 124 countries to take part in the marathon. "Vadodara international half marathon will use RFID tagging technology first time in India. In this technology, each runner will be given a disposable RFID tag, which will be unique to the runner. He will stick it to his running bib and as he passes the check points information about time taken, his rank at that stage and numerous other features will be displayed," Amin said. "The runner will be able to take advantage of Net Run Rate from start to finish. This will be the first marathon in the country were 100 per cent runners are given this technology," said Amin.
