Vidarbha v/s Andhra Pradesh ends in draw

Nagpur, Nov 4 (PTI) Ranjit Paradkar (unbeaten 154) and Amit Deshpande (92) batted beautifully as Vidarbha surpassed Andhra Pradesh''s first inings total to secure vital three points from their Ranji Trophy plate group B match here today. Baroda posted a mammoth 506 for six wickets ijn reply to Andhra Pradesh''s first innings score of 370 for nine as the match ended in a draw. Resuming at the overnight score of 265 for three, Vidarbha lost Shalabh Srivastav (38) soon after the play resumed this morning. Deshpande, playing his first match after a two seasons, held the innings together in the company of Paradkar to frustrate the visitors. Amit dropped anchor and batted for more than five sessions to ensure the hosts gain the vital lead and in the process completed his half century. Paradkar played some good shots on either side of the wicket. Vidarbha went to lunch with the score at 352 for four and looked in command. Deshpande was trapped lbw soon after the lunch. Paradkar maintained the tempo and scored freely against some very mediocre bowling from the visitors. Guest player and leg-spinner Sairaj Bahatule was seriously missed by the visitors following his fractured finger on the opening day as the home team piled runs at will to register their highest total in nearly 20 years. India discard Venugopal Rao was the main strike bowler claiming four wickets for the Andhra side. Brief score: Andhra first innings 370 for nine wickets. Vidarbha first innings 506 for six wickets off 108 overs. Ranjit Paradkar 154 not out, Amit Deshpande (92), Shalabh Srivastav (38). Venugopal Rao 4 for 130.
