Mumbai, Jan 7 (PTI) Mumbai would be the first-ever destination outside Europe and the United States for the "Marathon Flame" next Sunday in the lead up to the seventh Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon to be held on January 17. The flame, borne in a four-foot long and four-pound lantern, would be brought from the historic Greek city of Marathon to this metropolis by that country''s champion marathon runner Maria Polyzou, it was announced at a media conference here today. The flame would be lit by Mumbai Mayor Shraddha Jadhav on the morning of January 10 at the international airport for the commencement of the relay that will bring it to Hutatma Chowk in South Mumbai to light another 15-foot high cauldron, organisers Procam International announced. Celebrities from different walks of life, including event ambassador and actor John Abraham, cricketers Vinod Kambli and Kiran More and Olympians S S Narayan and Dhanraj Pillay, would take part in the torch relay. The organisers have roped in former Olympic decathlon champion Dan O''Brien of the United States, a three-time world champion in the gruelling race, as a brand ambassador who is scheduled to reach Mumbai next week. For the first time, the competitors would traverse the newly built Worli-Bandra Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link. The total prize money offered is USD 310,000 out of which the men''s and women''s winners would get USD 35,000 each.
