Zambia beat Gabon 2-1 to reach quarter-finals

Zambia weathered a late rally by Gabon to reach the African Nations Cup quarter-finals after a 2-1 win in their Group D match on Thursday.

Zambia were one of three teams to finish on four points but were placed ahead of Cameroon by virtue of goals scored. Gabon were eliminated with the lowest goals scored among the three.

Zambia's Rainford Kalaba slid a neat shot past goalkeeper Didier Evono to open the scoring in the 28th minute and James Chamanga made it 2-0 with a simple tap-in just after the hour.

But a goal seven minutes from the end by Gabon substitute Fabrice do Marcelino set up an exciting finish.
