New Delhi, Mar 15 (PTI) Former India cricketer Kirti Azad has demanded that Ferozshah Kotla ground should not be given approval to host IPL matches until the DDCA comply with the required safety norms. Azad claims the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has always given "conditional approval" to the DDCA to host matches, most recent being December''s India-Sri Lanka One-day international, despite not complying with the safety norms. In a letter to Delhi LG Tejinder Khanna, Azad warned that that lives of thousands of spectators would be in danger if DDCA gets approval yet again and do not comply with norms. "It is interesting to note that DDCA did not comply with conditions imposed by MCD for the match held in DDCA on 27th December, 2009. "With the impending IPL matches scheduled to start from 17th March, it should not happen that conditional approval, under some pressure, is again granted to DDCA, which will emperil the safety of 45,000 spectators, and can cause untold misery in case of an unfortunate mishap," the letter said. Azad, in his letter, has given the details of norms which DDCA flouted and MCD ignored, through several annexures. The Kotla ground is scheduled to host seven matches in the 45-day Indian Premier League. The first match is between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.
