'Show bouts' to build boxing's value

Chandigarh, April 16 -- Sports management company, Percept, in association with the Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) will organise two 'show bouts' as a brand-building exercise on April 17 at a five-star hotel in Delhi. The organisers will invite some special guests, including top corporate honchos, to witness the bout. However, the bouts will not be open to the public. Percept has called two boxers from Wales for bouts with leading Indian stars, Suranjoy and Dinesh. Though Vijender was slated to take the ring, he refrained from it as he is nursing a nose injury he sustained during the Commonwealth Championships. "It's purely a brand-building exercise," said a source. "We will be inviting some special guests and potential sponsors. Through these bouts, we want to show them how attractive the sport of boxing can be. What the corporate world thinks about cricket, we want to present boxing in that manner only. "We are also planning a boxing league on the lines of the IPL in the near future and the 'show bouts' are a step in that direction," he added.
