Shoaib Malik appeals against PCB punishment

Lahore, Apr.15 (ANI): Former Pakistan cricket captain and all rounder Shoaib Malik has also appealed against the fine and ban imposed on him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

e PCB had slapped a two billion rupee fine and imposed a year's ban on Malik following the disastrous tour of Australia.

"Malik's counsel Ahmed Hussain has sent his appeal against the fine and ban, and now an independent arbitrator will deal with the case," The Daily Times quoted a PCB spokesperson, as saying.

Malik was banned after an enquiry committee, which was formed to look into Pakistan's shoddy performance during the tour Down Under, held him responsible for creating discord in the team's dressing room.

Malik's appeal comes a day after former captain Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi filed their respective appeals against the PCB's punishments.

While Afridi personally filed his appeal against the three million fine slapped on him on ball-tampering charges, Younis challenged the indefinite ban through his lawyer.

In his appeal, Afridi has argued that he has already served a two T20match ban slapped by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the shocking ball-chomping act during the fifth and final one-day international in Australia, and cannot be punished twice for the same offence.

Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, who were among the seven cricketers punished by the board, have already lodged their appeals. (ANI)
