London, Apr 10 (ANI): McLaren team has promised to cut down its mistakes to help Formula One champ Jenson Button and his teammate Lewis Hamilton's title chances.

The British duo head into next week's Chinese Grand Prix with Button fourth and Hamilton sixth in the Formula 1 drivers' championship.

Both would have been higher in the standings, but team errors cost them in Australia and Malaysia, The Sun reports.

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh admitted: "We've not fully met our very high expectations in the first three races. It's our desire to eliminate mistakes from the operation to make us stronger championship contenders."

"There's no denying that our successes - Jenson's integration into the team, his win in Melbourne and some of the greatest drives of Lewis' career - have given us a great early-season boost.

"Now we are looking to establish ourselves as consistent challengers at the front to pick up the maximum available points on a regular basis," he said.

Hamilton told the team to improve after being called in for an extra stop in Melbourne when he could have finished runner-up to his teammate.

And in Kuala Lumpur both were kept in the garage with the team reckoning the rain would stop in qualifying and started near the back of the grid. (ANI)
