Oz humiliation never to be repeated with 'well-groomed' players: Alam

Karachi, Apr.10 (ANI): Former Pakistan cricket coach Intikhab Alam has said that the country would never suffer the humiliating loss like it did during the recent tour of Australia.

Alam, who was replaced from the national coach's post after Pakistan lost all three Tests, five one-day internationals, and a T20 match during the tour Down Under, said he has developed a blue print for training youngsters that would enable them to cope with the challenges on foreign tours.

Alam, who is currently heading the National Cricket Academy (NCA), said Pakistani players lack professionalism, which was evident in Australia and added that he would groom young players at the NCA as per international requirements.

"What we've been lacking in our cricket are proper work ethics, professionalism and discipline. Without instilling these qualities in our players we will keep on repeating the same mistakes again and again," The News quoted Alam, as saying.

Alam said that as NCA chief, his prime motive would be to help produce world class players. There are certain things that you can't learn once you are already playing at the international level," he added.

Alam, 68, said that one of the prime reasons why the Pakistan team lost so badly in Australia is that the players are weak when it comes to the basics of the game.

"We could have beaten Australia but what our players needed was skills that they should have learnt years ago as juniors. They fielded badly because they are weak in that department and you can't just teach them to be good fielders overnight. What we should do now is to ensure that the next lot of players is better trained and well-groomed," he said. (ANI)
