Kolkata, June 12 (IANS) With the World Cup soccer kicking off in South Africa, the West Bengal government has began installing giant screens across the state to give sports buffs of the football crazy state a chance to view the action live.

'Around 400 giant screens will be set up across the state to enable people watch the matches. Our aim is to cover all the blocks, with special stress on the backward ones,' a sports department official said.

In the metropolis, where the soccer mania is already visible, giant screens will come up at major crossings.

Among the crossings are Gariahat, Shyambazar, Moulali, Park Circus, Ballygunge and Esplanade.

The screens are being taken on rent from private agencies, the official said.
