Americans Kim and Toms out of British Open

World number 11 Anthony Kim and 2001 U.S. PGA champion David Toms have withdrawn from next week's British Open at St Andrews.

They will be replaced by fellow Americans Ricky Barnes, who tied for second at the 2009 U.S. Open, and 1997 U.S. PGA champion Davis Love III, organisers said in a news release on Tuesday.

Kim, 25, has four top-10 finishes in eight starts on the 2010 PGA Tour, including third place at the U.S. Masters, but pulled out of the Players Championship in May due to thumb surgery.

He is third in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings while Barnes lies ninth, one place from automatic qualification for the biennial match against Europe in Wales in October.
