Queen''s Baton Relay reaches Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Jul 6 (PTI) The Queen''s Baton Relay for the 2010 Commonwealth Games today entered Uttarakhand via Kulhal bridge where it was received by President of State Olympic Association and local MLA amid much fanfare. Himachal Pradesh officials and players carrying QBR reached Kulhal bridge on Yamuna river in Paonta Sahib area on the border of the two states where Rajiv Mehta, President of State Olympic Association and Vikasnagar MLA Kuldip Kumar received it. Leaders of various political parties, state officials and players were present on the occasion. A large number of sportslovers had to wait for long to catch a glimpse of the QBR as it reached the area nearly two hours behind the scheduled time due to rains. Later, the relay proceeded towards Governor''s house here. After being flagged off by Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva, the QBR passed through various places of the town before finally reaching the Parade Ground, where a function was held on its arrival. Tomorrow, the QBR will leave for holy town of Haridwar. The QBR was launched by Queen Elizabeth II at the Buckingham Palace in London on October 29 last year in the presence of Indian President Pratibha Patil.
