New Delhi, July 1 (ANI): The Secretary General of Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Randhir Singh, on Thursday said the organisation is committed to proper governance of sports bodies and is doing all good for the sports in the country.
"We had a very good meeting. We put forward our case and then the IOC came forward and explained the autonomy of Olympic as well as the Olympic charter," said Singh talking about the recent meeting held at Lausanne between International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Body, the representatives of IOA and members of Indian Sports Ministry to resolve the Central Government's directives on the tenure of heads of various sports bodies.
"We should work together. A lot of issues were raised in the meetings on good governance. We ourselves are doing what is necessary for good governance," he added.
Singh also mentioned about certain modifications, which the IOC will bring in the charter of various sports bodies.
"Changes that are coming in, there are emphasis have been made by the IOC on the autonomy of the national federations in line with the international federations. All these things are coming in and there are new laws that are coming in by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which we are incorporating," he added.
The outcome of the Lausanne meet, involving the IOC, the IOA, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and a representative of the Sports Ministry was that the autonomy of sports would be respected in tune with the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter, which will be upheld. (ANI)
