London, July 15(ANI): Australian left-handed batsman Marcus North's third-ball duck in the first innings of the Lord's Test against Pakistan has again raised questions if he is the weak link of the team.
North scored an unbeaten 112 and 90 his previous two Tests, but other than that he has been an abject failure at the No. 6 spot.
The left-hander's dismissal on the first day of the match also continued his record of failing to pass 10 in more than half of his innings at Test level.
North's 25 innings since his promotion to the Australian team in 2008 have produced a total of 945 runs, although 797 of those runs - 84.3 per cent - have come from eight innings. In the remaining 17 innings he has scored 148 runs at an average of 8.7, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
His rate of failure - not passing 10 when batting - of 52.3 per cent of innings at Test level is significantly above any of his batting teammates, with the next worst being Shane Watson with 31.3 per cent.
However, irrespective of how North performs in the rest of the match he seems a certainty to hold his position for next week's second Test at Headingley, mainly because reserve batsman Usman Khawaja has never played at international level. (ANI)
