Daman, Sep 12 (PTI) After completing 100 days and covering nearly 1,90,000 kilometres, the Queen''s Baton Relay for next month''s Commonwealth Games arrived in Daman today amid much fanfare. The baton, which arrived from Maharashtra, was welcomed at the Bamanpuja check post by a huge crowd. Commonwealth Games convenor Alka Lamba handed over the baton to Daman Diu and DNH administrator Satyagopal, who in turn gave it to Member of Parliament Lalubhai Patel and other public representatives. In her address, Lamba said that the relay, telecast live in all Indian states, has covered nearly 1,90,000 kms. "There is message on the golden strip which would be read during the inauguration ceremony. The relay covers more than 200 kms per day," she said. Satyagopal said that the relay has glorified Daman and Silvassa. "School children stood holding flags in their hands to welcome the relay and Balbhavan Children welcomed the relay by performing cultural programme of local Portuguese dance," Satyagopal said. Later, the relay left for Gujarat via Silvassa, Vapi and Surat.
