Afridi, Younis appeal against PCB fine, ban

Lahore, Apr.14 (ANI): Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan and incumbent T20 skipper Shahid Afridi have appealed against their respective fine and ban imposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

While Afridi personally filed his appeal against the three million fine slapped on him on ball-tampering charges during the disastrous tour Down Under, Younis challenged the indefinite ban through his lawyer.

"Yes, we have received the appeals from Afridi and Younis and we will be sending all appeals filed by the players to the governing board and then to an appellate tribunal for further action," a PCB spokesperson said.

Younis' counsel Abdul Qayyum said his client has a strong case, and demanded that the appeal should be heard in public, so that the truth comes out.

"Younis was never heard during the inquiry committee meetings and his advice was only sought how to improve the performance of the national team," The Daily Times quoted Qayyum, as saying.

In his appeal, Afridi has argued that he has already served a two T20match ban slapped by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the shocking ball-chomping act during the fifth and final one-day international in Australia, and cannot be punished twice for the same offence.

Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and the Akmal brothers, Kamran and Umar, who were also slapped with hefty fines and bans by the PCB have already filed their appeals. (ANI)
