Raj Royals tie-up gives Linc visibility in new markets

With Rajasthan Royals in the race for the semi-finals in IPL-3, at least one Kolkata-based firm is rejoicing. Linc Pens, whose brand ambassador is Shah Rukh Khan, became associate sponsor of the Royals for this season of Twenty20 cricket. SRK's Knight Riders are almost out of IPL.

Said Deepak Jalan, MD, Linc Pens: "We wanted to tie up with one of the eight teams, but we finally struck a deal with the Royals." Jalan pointed out that he explored the opportunity to tie up with KKR for their uniforms, "but all their properties had been sold". But he said Linc Pens was a regional partner of KKR.

The tie-up with Royals - Linc Pen's logo is on the team trousers -- has given the company brand visibility in markets like Ahmedabad and Jaipur, the home grounds of the team, "two markets we are trying to develop". Jalan said the association with IPL is "a beginning for us". According to industry estimates, though different properties cost differently, a logo on the trousers would range from Rs 1-1.5 crore, while those on the jerseys costs Rs 3 crore and above.

For Linc Pens, the highest revenue earner is the eastern region, followed by the north. "We are still developing the brand in the south and west," said Jalan. While the writing instruments industry is pegged at Rs 2,500 crore, 30% of it is unorganized. The industry is growing at 8-10%.
