New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Ramesh Bidhuri and R. P. Singh filed a police complaint on Friday alleging corruption in organising the Commonwealth Games.
The leaders said that the fraud is 'an economic genocide of country's wealth', while lodging an FIR at the Parliament Street Police Station here today.
"This is a complaint by two individuals against the Commonwealth Organizing Committee (CGOC) and its officials. The basic allegations against the officials and the Organizing Committee are that they have committed fraud and cheating," said Ajay Dikpal, a lawyer representing Singh and Bidhuri.
"They have embezzled the funds, which belong to the country and its citizens. This is the basic allegation and we have pointed out certain facts and circumstances which speak for themselves," he added.
The BJP leaders said they have lodged their complaints as taxpaying citizens of the country.
"We have come here as common citizens of the country and as taxpayers. It is our money, which is being embezzled and misused. Therefore we have asked that this should be thoroughly investigated," said R. P. Singh.
"This is not against just a few people, but all those tenders and unidentified persons, who might be involved in this fraud should be brought under the purview of this complaint," he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, the BJP leaders staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha miffed with Union Sports Minister M S Gill's weak defence over allegations of corruption against the CGOC members, asserting that Gill has insulted Parliament by suggesting MPs should use RTI to get information about CWG preparation costs.
Following a plea by the Union Sports Ministry, CGOC had earlier terminated the services of its Joint Director General T S Darbari and Deputy Director General Sanjay Mohindroo in connection with alleged financial irregularities during the Queen's Baton Relay Run ceremony in London.
The Central Vigilance Commission had alleged irregularities in several Commonwealth Games related-works being carried out by civic and construction agencies. (ANI)
