London, Oct.1 (ANI): Manchester United's defensive horrors are a thing of the past, believes Rio Ferdinand after the club registered a a famous Champions League win in Valencia.

After shipping nine goals in six league games, Ferdinand believes this result now means the team are ready to be mean again.

"This result is definitely a confidence boost. It has been well documented we have let points slip in recent games and you do get nervous when you're on a run like that. But against Valencia, I thought we dealt with it well as a team. The platform for any successful team is to defend well and keep clean sheets," The Sun quoted Ferdinand, as saying.

"It is about the whole team working hard and doing their jobs," he added.

"It is down to the players to communicate all the way through the team and try to apply what the manager wants us to do," he said.

Manchester United face Sunderland next, and Ferdinand says that he is just happy to be playing top-flight football. (ANI)
