India opt to bat in first test v New Zealand

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat in the first test against New Zealand at the Motera Stadium on Thursday.

The hosts selected Shanthakumaran Sreesanth as the second paceman ahead of Ishant Sharma, while batsman Kane Williamson and fast bowler Hamish Bennett have been handed their New Zealand debuts.

The second test is in Hyderabad from Nov. 12-16 while the third and final test will be played in Nagpur from Nov. 20-24.

India: Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (captain), Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Pragyan Ojha.

New Zealand: Brendon McCullum, Tim McIntosh, BJ Watling, Ross Taylor, Jesse Ryder, Kane Williamson, Daniel Vettori (captain), Gareth Hopkins, Jeetan Patel, Hamish Bennett, Chris Martin.
